Wheel the World is a benefit corporation with the purpose of enabling people with disabilities to explore the world. We create inclusive travel experiences in unique travel destinations, by providing equipment, training tour operators and identifying accessible accommodation. We allow people with disabilities, their friends, and families to enjoy the outdoors together.
In one year we have already executed 4 projects: Wheel the World Easter Island, Wheel the World Torres del Paine, Wheel the World Cochamó and Wheel the World San Pedro de Atacama. More than 250 people have lived our experiences, we have had more than 100 press appearances, filmed 4 documentaries that have been seen by 5 million people and have generated a community of +20,000 people committed to our purpose and actions.
WHY MACHU PICCHU?
The Citadel of Machu Picchu is considered the main tourist attraction in Peru and one of the most visited worldwide.
Surrounded by majestic mountain peaks and at 2,430 meters (7,970 ft) above sea level, the great Inca Ruins in the sky are truly amazing. Words fall short when trying to describe this place, which makes it even more important to go see it for yourself, but, there is not a single program for people with disabilities in Machu Picchu.
1.5 Millions of Peruvian people have disabilities., and 1.5m tourists visited Machu Picchu in 2017. There is not a single program for people with disabilities in Machu Picchu.
WHY SUPPORT US?
We will create the first program of inclusive hiking in Machu Picchu allowing the local community and future visitors to explore the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Your support is going to help us to provide special equipment and training to a tour operator to allow the continuity of the program.
We will donate special trekking wheelchairs to enable the experiences.
