Plan a self-guided visit to the Harvard Museum of Natural History, located on the Harvard University Campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and admire the museum’s extensive collection of fossils and glass flowers.

The museum opened in 1998 and draws together exhibits and research from the Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Harvard Mineralogical and Geological Museum and the Harvard University Herbaria. It contains the world’s only mounted Kronosaurus skeleton, which is an ancient marine reptile from the early Cretaceous period that measured up to 11 metres (36 feet) in length. Other permanent collections at the museum include skeletons of animals from around the world, taxidermy birds, a large collection of gemstones and glass models of flowers.

The Harvard Museum of Natural History also hosts temporary exhibitions to showcase new or visiting collections. There is an extensive educational program at the museum, with visiting lecturers, adult classes and special tours of the museum suitable for children and families.

The museum is accessible to people with disabilities. The main entrance is accessed via stairs, but a wheelchair-accessible entrance via a ramp can be found on the north entrance of the building, and there is an elevator to the upper floors. Accessible bathrooms are located on the ground and third floor, and the museum distributes wheelchairs for use inside the museum grounds on a first come, first served basis. Service animals are welcome inside the museum and accessible parking spaces are available in a nearby public garage.
