ABOUT OAXACA, MÉXICO
Beautiful Oaxaca is known for its colonial buildings, colorful murals, unique real Mexican cuisine, mezcal tasting, beyond others. 90 minutes from the city of Oaxaca, you can enjoy one of the biggest virgin areas in the American continent, Sierra Norte. This pristine region is one of the most biodiverse ones in the world and you can discover it through a vast trail network of more than 100 km. We invite you to hike through marvelous trails, learn about ancestral medicine and traditions.
Day 0 - Arrival to Oaxaca
You will arrive in Oaxaca, one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico and an important part of the Mexican DNA. Your local guide will welcome you at the airport and will transfer you to your hotel. On route, he will explain you the next few days activities.
Day 1 - Visit Monte Albán, Oaxaca Market, and Historical Center
We’ll start exploring the archaeological zone of Monte Albán, where you can find thousand-year-old pyramids and with the help of our guides and assistants, even climb to the top of some.
Later we’ll visit the Oaxaca’s Market “20 de Noviembre”, which is one of the most emblematic of the city. Here you can enjoy several gastronomic Mexican foods.
Finally, we’ll go through the streets of the beautiful Historical Center of the city, visiting places such as Santo Domingo Temple.
Day 2 - Mezcal tasting and trip to Llano Grande, Sierra Norte
In the morning, you will start our journey to Sierra Norte. Your first stop will be at a craft workshop of mezcal where you can taste different wild agaves. The second stop will be for lunch on the cute town Cuajimoloyas.
Your last destination is Llano Grande, where you can rest before tomorrow’s trek.
Day 3 - Trekking viewpoint Llano Grande, and a prehispanic ritual “Temazcal”
A must in Sierra Norte is Llano Grande’s natural viewpoint at 3,300 mt above sea level. To get there you will do a trek (with the Joëlette wheelchair) really early in the morning to enjoy an spectacular dawn of illuminated sea of clouds and mountains.
After this epic experience, we will stop for lunch in Lachatao, where you can enjoy a regional dish called "Amarillito", a type of mole.
You will finalize the day with a magical experience: Temazcal. This is a prehispanic ritual dedicated to fire and life. A moment that you will never forget.
Day 4 - Trekking from Lachatao to Latuvi and trekking to viewpoint Benito Juarez
This day you will enjoy a trekking on a millennial path called Camino Real, which connects the Pacific with the Gulf of Mexico. The route is of 13 km where you can enjoy impressive landscapes.
Arriving at Latuvi you will have a delicious lunch to recharged batteries for the next adventure. This will be a short trek to the viewpoint of the town of Benito Juarez, which count with an incredible suspension bridge.
Finally, you will return to Llano Grande to spend the night.
Day 5 - Trekking to Cuajimoloyas, zip line, and a culinary mole experience
Your last day in Sierra Norte you will trek to reach the top of a small mountain in the village of Cuajimoloyas, where you will descend one by one on an impressive zip line 1 km long with an spectacular scenery.
Before returning to Oaxaca City, you will visit Mr. Eli's Farm. Here you will learn to prepare a mole (special family recipe) and prepare tortillas. You will be able to share and hear stories and the philosophy of life of the people of this region of Mexico.
You will return to Oaxaca City and close with a farewell dinner in the Zócalo.
Day 6 - End of the trip
The trip comes to an end today. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight.
