Country Information

Health

Be sure to get appropriate health insurance that fits your travel and personal needs, and have funds available to cover any medical emergency. There are high-quality health facilities but healthcare is exceptionally expensive so insurance is required.

Security

Even though the political situation is stable and safe, pickpocketing and mugging can still take place in popular tourist sites. Be aware of your surroundings and most importantly avoid carrying large amounts of money in crowded places. Always use authorized taxi services.

Documentation

Travelers from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Japan, and many EU countries don’t need visas for stays of less than 90 days, though they must get approval from the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Visitors from Canada need neither a visa nor ESTA approval for stays of less than 90 days. Citizens of other nations should check the State Department’s website.

Weather

The weather in the USA varies greatly depending on the region. Hawaii or California will have very different weather than New York or Atlanta. June to August is the summer, with late summer tending to have the highest temperatures in all regions. In the fall and spring, temperatures are milder, gorgeous leaf color changes can be seen on the East coast in the fall, and flowers bloom all over in the spring. In winter (December – February) it can snow, rain, or remain relatively warm – depending on the area.

Language

USA’s official language is English.

Electricity

Buy adapters to run most non-US electronics. AC 120V is standard.
