About France

A prized destination for lovers of food, wine, culture and nature, France offers something special to everyone who comes to visit. It’s no secret that Paris is the most romantic city in the world, as it is home to beautiful architecture, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral and the meandering Seine river. Hower, France is so much more than just Paris! When you’ve had your fill of historic monuments, art galleries and museums, leave the capital behind and explore the wine regions of Bordeaux, the Basque country towards Spain, the charming half-timbered buildings of the Alsace, the gastronomic cuisine of Lyon, the natural beauty of the French Alps or the coastline of Brittany and Normandy. And if sunshine, sea and glamor sound appealing to you, head to the Côte d’Azur and drive along the Mediterranean Sea from Nice to Italy via Monaco, on the roads where the Grand Prix is held.

Accessible travel France

Efforts have been made in France to accommodate disabled travelers, with transportation and more modern public buildings generally equipped with accessibility measures. However, historic buildings and towns may be harder to navigate, and have features such as cobbled stone streets or buildings with staircases and no elevator access. In cities, it is common for cars to be parked partially on the sidewalk or blocking the dip in the curb, which makes traveling in a wheelchair more challenging.

Country Information

Health

No vaccinations are required to enter France, but as with all international travel, it is recommended to be up-to-date on your vaccinations. Be sure to get appropriate health insurance to fit your personal and travel needs, and have funds available to cover any medical emergency.

Security

France is a safe tourist destination, but it is still recommended to be cautious and to avoid flashing valuables. Muggings and pickpocketing can occur, especially in larger cities. Beware of falling victim to scams such as being approached on the street by and asked to fill out forms to make a donation to charitable associations; this can be a covert way of pickpocketing tourists.

Public transport is generally safe and reliable, but it is best to avoid travelling alone at night. Some muggings and assaults can occur, notably on the RER lines in Paris.

Documentation

Entry requirements to France depend on your nationality. Check specific entry requirements here.
