In short, even though the political situation is stable and safe, pickpocketing and mugging can still take place in popular tourist sites. Certainly, be aware of your surroundings and most importantly avoid carrying large amounts of money in crowded places. Always use authorized taxi services.

Documentation

To clarify, citizens from certain countries in Latin America do not need a passport to enter Chilean territory; most importantly, just their national identity card. These countries include Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Likewise, most western countries don’t need a visa to enter. However, to be safe, make sure if you need one before you book a ticket.

It is also important to mention that some nationals must pay an entry fee on arrival: Australia – US$117, Mexico – US$23, Suriname – US$25, USA – US$160.

Weather

Firstly, Easter Island has a subtropical climate. Peak season is summer, between January and March, especially because February’s Tapati Rapa Nui Festival. Between July and September, it gets a bit chilly and windy, not ideal for beaches but a good time for hiking. Spring and autumn have fairly temperate weather.
