About Peru

On the Pacific coast of South America lies Peru, a country known for its history and diverse geography. From cloud forests and beaches to deserts and the Amazon rainforest, Peru offers a variety of places with distinct landscapers, cultures, and heritage. One of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, Machu Picchu, makes Peru a popular tourist destination. Travelers can explore the history of the Incan empire in Cuzco and the surrounding Sacred Valley. The coastal capital city of Lima is revered for its cuisine, home to some of the most highly rated restaurants in Latin America. In addition to Machu Picchu visits, we offer activities like handbiking in the Sacred Valley, accommodations around Peru, and complete packages to explore Peru without limits.

Accessible travel Peru

In 2014, Lima passed ordinances to become a more accessible city. Not all hotels, restaurants, or attractions are accessible. Miraflores, the luxury district of Lima, has wider sidewalks and a wide, relatively smooth coastal path. Cuzco, as it is a Spanish colonial city built on Incan architecture, has rough cobblestone streets - some with steep inclines. Machu Picchu lacks ramps and elevators, but with guides, assistance, and the right equipment, it can be accessed. In 1998, Peru began an initiative to make its tourism infrastructure more accessible. An in-depth analysis was made and the result was a report titled “Tourism for the People with Disabilities: The First Evaluation of Accessibility to Peru's Tourist Infrastructure”. You can get a copy of this report from the Peruvian Embassy in your country.

Country Information

Health

"Be sure to get appropriate health insurance to fit your personal and travel needs, and have funds available to cover any medical emergency. Health precautions depend on what region you will be visiting in Peru.

The Yellow Fever Vaccine is required to enter Peru, only if you are arriving from a country that is also known to have the disease. It, as well as malaria pills, are highly recommended if you will be visiting the Amazon, but no other regions.

Visitors in mountainous regions like Cuzco and surrounding areas may suffer from altitude sickness, which produces symptoms of nausea, fatigue, headaches and sleeplessness. If suffering from altitude sickness, it is recommended to stay hydrated, take aspirin or ibuprofen and to avoid alcohol and sleeping pills. Oxygen and herbal teas are often available at hotels in the city of Cuzco to help travelers acclimatize. "

Peru is a relatively safe destination, however, it is still recommended to be cautious and avoid flashing valuables. Pick-pocketing, robbery, and hotel room theft are the most common crimes. Always keep an eye on your belongings and stay alert in large crowds and on public transportation. Keep a photocopy of your passport and other documents at hand in case of an emergency.
